Who We Are, Our Philosophy & The Process

About Oak & Pine by Design

Oak & Pine by Design is a small bespoke kitchen and furniture company, and a family business. Daniel Fitzpatrick is owner and master craftsman. Daniel leads a team of 5 skilled craftsmen from their woodcraft workshop and showroom, based in Honley, a village in Yorkshire, next to picturesque Holmfirth, where The Last of the Summer Wine is filmed. The workshop has proudly earned and maintained Guild of Master Craftsmen status, as customer satisfaction underpins and guides the team’s philosophy.

Our Products

We specialise in the design and construction of handmade wood kitchens, staircases and furniture. With pleasure, we make bespoke pieces by commission, from kitchens and furniture to smaller products bought for gifts. And we are specialists at woodturning. On request, we create wood spindles, newel posts and pilasters, to custom beer tap handles or hand turned bowls made from exotic woods. Our quality barley twist pilasters made from fine oak can even be found in a famous Knightsbridge department store displays.

The Art of Woodworking

Traditional wood turning is a dying trade. We are amongst the few remaining masters of the craft and have become Traditional wood turning is a dying trade. We are amongst the few remaining masters of the craft and have become keepers of knowledge from past masters, ensuring these traditional skills are accessible for future generations to learn, as we handover these skills to our apprentices. It could be said that we stand on the shoulders of giants. Only through our passion and dedication do we retain this close connection with the past.

Our Materials & Process

The furniture and products which we create are designed and made in house from ecologically sourced hardwoods. Wherever possible we use sustainable reclaimed timbers. We work on a commission basis to a client’s exact requirements, creating a piece of unique wooden furniture to any brief. And we produce stock for our showroom in Honley, West Yorkshire.

All customers have direct access to Daniel, and the design process begins with a discussion about the customers’ needs. Daniel is happy to visit customers at their home to measure the space available, particularly when projects are fitted or require installation. Quality handmade wood furniture takes time to make, commonly 8-10 weeks. Nevertheless, we stay in touch with and keep customers up to date on project builds.
